Branding Photography: Headshots and Stock Imagery for The Northern Spy
Now more than ever, imagery is important in defining the identity of your business. Thanks to social media, not only are you able to put forth and help clients visualize your brand on multiple platforms (pretty much constantly) but consumers have become incredibly savvy thanks to the pretty much constant consumption of images in our culture.
And you know what else has changed? Headshots. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: gone are the days of the crushed velvet backdrop and cheesy suited-up smile. The modern headshot is fresh and flexible, your chance to introduce yourself as a person. Think of it as a friendly, personable “hello” in jpg form.
So when it came to taking headshots for the lovely team at The Northern Spy, I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted to do. We DID take a more classic headshot for each team member, but at the end of the day? This is a group of people you’d love to sit down and grab a drink with. (More specifically, a delicious Stem cider with, who are we kidding?) And that’s exactly the direction we went with it.
We also hammered out variety of brand-specific still lifes and interiors for social media, publicity, and miscellaneous usage during our session, which is another one of my favorite things to shoot. I’m a total nerd for the colors and composition in a simple still life but let’s just call that an occupational hazard.
Congratulations again to Durham’s The Northern Spy! The restaurant and bottle shop officially celebrates their grand opening on May 23, 2019, so make a point to drop on by for some cider and a pulled pork sandwich.
